The baffle/skirt operates on the principle of controlled airflow dynamics and physical containment. It creates a low-pressure zone that draws contaminants toward the extraction point while preventing turbulence that could cause escape. The adjustable or fixed design maintains optimal capture velocity (typically 0.25-0.5 m/s for thermal plumes, 0.5-1.0 m/s for low-momentum emissions) across the entire opening, ensuring contaminants are captured at their source before dispersion into the workspace.
