A precision resistor used to measure current flow in electrical circuits by converting current to a measurable voltage drop.
A sense resistor is a low-value, high-precision resistor specifically designed for current sensing applications. It is placed in series with a load to measure current by detecting the voltage drop across it according to Ohm's Law (V = I × R). These resistors feature extremely low temperature coefficients, minimal inductance, and tight tolerance to ensure accurate current measurement in power management, motor control, battery monitoring, and overcurrent protection circuits.

Sense resistors have much lower resistance values (milliohms), tighter tolerances, lower temperature coefficients, and minimized parasitic inductance compared to standard resistors, making them suitable for accurate current measurement.
Current (I) = Voltage drop (V) / Resistance (R). Measure the voltage across the sense resistor terminals and divide by its known resistance value.
They provide real-time current measurement, allowing the control circuit to detect overcurrent conditions and trigger protective actions like reducing power or shutting down the circuit.
