For predominantly 1-6 mm sheet, 3-6 kW cuts economically with nitrogen. Thick carbon steel above 15-20 mm benefits from 12 kW and up, or oxygen cutting at lower power. Buying maximum wattage rarely pays unless thick plate or speed-critical thin sheet dominates the mix.

Nitrogen or oxygen assist gas?

Nitrogen produces oxide-free edges ready for welding and painting on stainless and aluminum but consumes more gas and power. Oxygen adds exothermic energy for thick carbon steel at lower laser power, leaving an oxide edge that may need cleaning.

What should acceptance testing cover?
