High-precision linear position feedback device for machine bridges and gantries
A linear encoder scale is a precision measurement component that provides accurate position feedback along a linear axis. It consists of a graduated scale (typically glass or metal with optical or magnetic markings) and a reading head that detects position changes. In machine bridges and gantries, it enables closed-loop control of linear motion with micron-level accuracy, ensuring precise positioning, repeatability, and synchronization of moving elements.

Incremental encoders measure relative position from a reference point and require homing after power loss. Absolute encoders provide unique position values immediately upon power-up without homing, using coded tracks on the scale.
Optical scales offer higher resolution and accuracy (±1 μm) but are sensitive to contamination. Magnetic scales are more robust against dust, coolant, and vibration with slightly lower accuracy (±5 μm), suitable for harsh environments.
Regular cleaning of scale surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, checking mounting alignment, and verifying signal integrity. Optical scales require protection from oil and chips; magnetic scales need periodic demagnetization checks.
