The Disc/Ball is a critical sealing component in check valves, designed to move freely within the valve body to allow unidirectional flow. When fluid flows in the forward direction, pressure lifts the disc/ball from its seat; when flow reverses or stops, gravity or backpressure forces it back against the seat, creating a tight seal to prevent backflow. This component ensures system integrity by maintaining pressure and preventing contamination in pipelines.

The Disc/Ball operates on a simple mechanical principle: it responds to fluid pressure differentials. Forward flow creates pressure that displaces the component from its seat, allowing passage. Reverse flow or absence of forward pressure causes the disc/ball to return to its seated position, blocking the flow path. In swing check valves, a hinged disc pivots; in ball check valves, a spherical ball moves linearly; both rely on fluid dynamics and gravity for operation.
