The monkey board operates as a fixed or adjustable elevated platform that allows the derrickman to manually or mechanically handle tubulars during tripping operations. During pipe tripping, the derrickman stands on the monkey board to receive tubulars from the elevator or top drive, guide them into the fingerboard slots, and secure them in the setback area. The platform's design ensures ergonomic positioning and safety while working at heights, often incorporating guardrails, non-slip surfaces, and attachment points for safety harnesses.
