The casing, also known as volute, is a critical stationary component in centrifugal pumps like CIP return pumps. It's a spiral-shaped housing that surrounds the impeller and collects the fluid discharged from it. The casing's primary function is to convert the high-velocity kinetic energy from the impeller into usable pressure energy through its gradually expanding cross-sectional area. In CIP (Clean-in-Place) return pumps, it must withstand aggressive cleaning chemicals, temperature variations, and maintain hygienic standards.
