Typically made from high-carbon chromium steel (AISI 52100/SUJ2) or stainless steel (AISI 440C) for corrosion resistance. Ceramic (silicon nitride) or hybrid (steel rings with ceramic balls) variants exist for high-speed or extreme environments. Retainers are often steelbrassor polymer (PEEKnylon).
