The calibration target provides known geometric features (points, lines, patterns) that the scanner captures. Software compares the scanned data to the target's certified dimensions, calculating correction factors for lens distortion, scaling errors, and coordinate alignment to ensure measurement traceability.

Typically made from stable materials with low thermal expansion: ceramic (aluminazirconia)glassor anodized aluminum. Surface features may include chrome plating or laser-etched patterns on a contrasting background.
