Friction discs typically consist of a steel core plate (often 1045 carbon steel or similar) with bonded or riveted friction linings. Friction materials include: 1. Organic composites (resin-bonded cellulosearamid fibersrubber compounds) for moderate-duty applications. 2. Semi-metallic formulations (steel woolcopper fibers with graphite) for higher thermal capacity. 3. Ceramic/metallic sintered materials (copper/iron-based matrices with friction modifiers) for extreme-duty industrial applications. Backing plates are usually phosphated or coated for corrosion resistance.
