Screen panels are precision-engineered, rectangular components installed in shale shakers used in oil and gas drilling operations. They consist of multiple layers of woven wire mesh bonded to a rigid frame, designed to withstand high-frequency vibration while filtering solids from drilling mud. The panels feature specific mesh sizes (measured in API mesh numbers) that determine particle separation efficiency, with finer meshes removing smaller particles. They are mounted on vibrating decks where centrifugal force and gravity drive fluid through the mesh while retaining solids on the surface for disposal.

Screen panels operate on the principle of mechanical filtration through vibrating sieve separation. When installed in a shale shaker, high-frequency linear or elliptical vibration creates G-forces that propel drilling fluid downward through the mesh openings while solids move upward across the surface. The vibration prevents blinding (clogging) by keeping particles in motion, allowing continuous separation. Fluid passes through the mesh layers into collection pans below, while separated solids are discharged off the screen's end. The separation efficiency depends on mesh size, vibration parameters, and fluid properties.
